Japan: Genou Matcha
For a matcha with such a simple composition that is only made up of only a single tea type, it has a very deep name. The poetic name means "Inner heart" or "Heart of Hearts." The simple nature of this tea permeates your subconscious. Your taste buds are the last to fully understand how subtle and sublime each layer is. Your mind, body, and heart have already given in to the enjoyment of this matcha.
Koicha Grade Matcha that is stone ground and grown by farmers in Kyotonabe City in Uji and shaded for about 4 weeks. Genou is our first step into the blending of different cultivars. We have structured the taste with Samidori as the base for its sweetness in taste and nutty aroma. Gokoh, gives it an amazing delicate taste with a deep aroma. Asahi has an amazing dark cocoa character that is bittersweet and defines this matcha.
All of our matcha selections are the same grade and quality. The only difference you will find are the types of tea tree cultivars that are used. The use of different cultivars gives each matcha its own character and taste. Certain cultivars are more expensive due to the small amount of harvest and the skills needed to masterfully grow and process them.
Matcha is not just a simple tea to us. It is part of our everyday health regimen and our tea practice. We are long time practitioners of Chanoyu through the Urasenke school and have dedicated our lives to the art of tea.. Our goal is to offer the purest taste, without compromising quality, at a reasonable price.
